Description:   The General Manager, Online Media will play a critical role in driving the profitability and strategic growth of the digital media business for the leading online publisher Active.com and its family of sites. The ideal candidate has a full address book of contacts, deep online & digital media industry knowledge, and is excited about driving a digital media business towards the $50 million mark.

Requirements:

  • Deep understanding of and connections within the digital media landscape
  • Proven ability to formulate the strategic plan for a business unit and gain the buy-in of key stakeholders
  • Ability to work successfully across departments and manage to multiple objectives
  • Entrepreneurial drive with strong understanding of business fundamentals
  • 8-10+ years of experience, primarily focused on digital media
  • MBA preferred
  • Frequent travel requiredResponsibilities: Responsible for P&L of Online Media business.
  • Drive forward looking online advertising and monetization strategy within online and digital media space
  • Develop and evolve online “product” per market conditions, competitive landscape, Active assets, and growing vertical markets (endurance, team sports, communities, outdoors, events, education, etc…):
  • Pricing and level of service
  • Increase salability of all Active assets
  • Involvement with key Active stakeholders (i.e. Media Properties, Commerce, Online Account Management & Ad Ops teams)
  • Online products leveraging Active technology business
  • Driving evolution of online products to include branding, lead generation, and sales conversion results
  • Development of email marketing programs
  • Optimization of all inventory across sites
  • Creation of new inventory offerings and monetization strategies
  • Leadership of all strategic partnerships/sales, develop key relationships with Online Media Buying Agencies
  • Developing ad representation agreements with specific vertical sites in key markets
  • Leadership in training sales team to sell offering
  • Pitch lead and support for key sales opportunities
  • Subject matter expert for specific Active Marketing Group offerings – inward/outward communication of thought leadership
  • Manage business towards scalability and success in reaching 2010, 2011, etc…
  • Develop efforts at increased client renewal through strategic program development and post program outreach
