Florida Pitt Waller School takes charge of student health and wellness as part of national initiative, Fuel Up to Play 60
Denver — Throughout the fall, middle schools across the nation will be kicking-off a new premiere initiative, Fuel Up to Play 60 (FUTP 60). In an effort to combat childhood obesity, Fuel Up to Play 60 is a new youth-led program created by National Dairy Council and the National Football League and provided locally by Western Dairy Association and Denver Broncos.
The program empowers students to make changes at school that will help them “get active and play” for 60 minutes a day and “fuel up” with critical nutrient-rich foods missing from their diets—like low-fat and fat-free dairy foods, fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
An early adopter of FUTP 60, Florida Pitt Waller, a K-8 school within the Denver Public School District, will be working together with their student team and school staff to build a customized in-school program and expand opportunities for students to improve their overall health and wellness and the health of their school environment.
WHAT: Fuel Up to Play 60 Kick-off, excited and motivated student group.
WHERE: Florida Pitt Waller, 21601 E. 51st Place
WHEN: Monday, Nov. 16 at 2:15 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium
WHY: The program is designed to combat childhood obesity and help youth develop life-long healthy eating and daily physical activity habits. For more than 90 years, National Dairy Council has offered research and nutrition education programs in schools with a commitment to providing leadership in the fight against poor nutrition, inactivity and obesity among out nation’s youth. Also, designed to tackle childhood obesity, NFL PLAY 60 is the National Football League’s movement to make the next generation of youth the most active and healthy. Together with like-minded partners, the NFL and its players unite under PLAY 60 to encourage kids to get up and play for 60 minutes a day.
Florida Pitt Waller Middle School and its FUTP 60 student team will be working year-long in partnership with their school to expand opportunities for physical activity and to increase the availability of breakfast.
On Nov. 17, Florida Pitt Waller middle school will roll out BIC. The FUTP60 student team will announce the start of BIC in conjunction with their FUTP60 school-wide kick off on Nov. 16th. They will be celebrating with a school-wide assembly, called Eat Right Get Movin’ with Miles, featuring the Denver Broncos mascot “Miles”, to help generate excitement for the program.
