LARKRIDGE RETAIL CENTER HOLIDAY PREVIEW FEATURES FIVE STAR STUDENTS

Larkridge Retail Center, I-25 and Colorado State Highway 7, Thornton. The Larkridge Retail Center Holiday Preview, Saturday, Nov. 21 will provide a day of entertainment and fun for the entire family. During the event, Larkridge is supporting the Adams 12 Five Star Schools Education Foundation and the National Western Stock Show Scholarship Trust. Throughout the day, students from the Five Star District will perform at various locations. Performances include the Silver Hills Middle School band, 11 – 11:30 a.m.; the Mountain View Elementary choir including the sign language choir, 11 – 11:30 a.m.; the Coronado Hills Elementary choir, 12 – 12:30 p.m.; and the Mountain Range High School orchestra, 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The Horizon High School choir will sing carols as they travel by wagon throughout the center. They will be performing from 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 12:30 – 1 p.m. At 12 p.m., the Horizon choir will stop near Chick-fil-A for a live remote performance and interview with radio station 89.7 WAY-FM. All Larkridge merchants will be offering discounts and fun activities. Enjoy a day of shopping, fun, a stick rodeo, vand entertainment. GOLF BALL DROP SUPPORTS VALENTINE’S FOR TROOPS AND HOLIDAY CHARITIES
Educational Support Center, 1500 E. 128th Ave., Thornton. Golf balls will drop down the staircase at the Adams 12 Five Star Schools Educational Support Center, 1500 E. 128th Ave., Thornton on Monday, Nov. 23, 2 p.m. ProStart and Teacher Cadet students are selling golf balls to raise money to support the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) charities for the holiday season and to purchase supplies and postage for the Valentine’s for Troops event. Numbered golf balls will be released down the staircase and the first to cross the finish line will win a prize for its owner. Golf balls may be purchased for five dollars from any ProStart or Teacher Cadet student or instructor until Monday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m. A $50 cash prize will be given out for every 100 golf balls sold. OTHER NEWS AND FEATURE STORIES FIVE STAR DISTRICT EARNS INTERNATIONAL AWARD FOR BUDGET EXCELLENCE

The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) announced that Adams 12 Five Star Schools has earned the Meritorious Budget Award for excellence in the preparation and issuance of a 2009-2010 school system annual budget. The Meritorious Budget Awards Program was designed by ASBO International and school business management professionals to enable school business administration to achieve excellence in budge presentation. The program helps school systems build a solid foundation in the skills of developing, analyzing and presenting a budget. The award is only given to school systems that have met or exceeded the program criteria. The Adams 12 Five Star Schools budget contains excellent spreadsheets, charts, graphs and narratives. SKYVIEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MARKS 25TH ANNIVERSARY ON APRIL 30, 2010

Skyview Elementary School, 5021 E. 123rd Ave., Thornton. A 25th anniversary celebration is being planned for Skyview Elementary School. Former students and teachers are being sought for the event, which is scheduled for Friday, April 30 from 6-8 p.m. Skyview Elementary School, located at 5021 E. 123rd Ave. in Thornton, is in the Adams 12 Five Star School District. Approximately 800 local children began attending the new Skyview Elementary School when the building was opened in August 1985. Currently 519 students, preschool through fifth-grade, attend the school. Skyview administrators and staff are currently seeking copies of photographs taken at Skyview Elementary of former students, teachers and school events. The idea is to gather information about the school’s history and create displays showing school happenings from past years for the upcoming celebration. Community members and all former Skyview Elementary School students, teachers, and administrators are invited to the 25th anniversary celebration for the school. The event will include a celebration with food, entertainment, a choir performance by current Skyview students, and presentations marking milestones of the school. Historical displays showing a progression through the years at Skyview Elementary School will also be available for viewing. As part of the 25th celebration, a $500 college scholarship is being awarded to a former Skyview Elementary student. Former Skyview Elementary students who are high school seniors or in college are invited to apply for the scholarship which will be awarded to one student on April 30. To apply for the Skyview scholarship, former students must submit an application with a typed 500-word essay describing a particular Skyview teacher or experience at Skyview Elementary and how it impacted that student’s educational path. Students applying for the Skyview scholarship must have attended the school for at least three years.
